Liquid Tension Experiment
Here are some performance from ensemble band Liquid Tension experiment, which features drummer Mike Portnoy, guitarist John Petrucci and keyboardist Jordan Rudess, all from Dream Theater, teamed with bassist Tony Levin of King Crimson fame. Levin sometimes plays an odd looking bass called a Chapman Stick. The compositions are just jaw-dropping.

Jordan Rudess
Jordan is the current keyboardist for Dream Theater. If you don't know the story of Mr. Rudess, let's just say he was a prodigy. In second grade, he played a piano accompaniment for his class--without having had a lesson. Because of his aptitude for music, Jordan attended Julliard, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world, from the age of 9 to 17 in preparation for a career as a classic pianist. Jordan, however, became interested in the electronic keyboard, and left Julliard to pursue a career in rock music. Jordan is, without question, one of the most gifted musicians on the planet. Here are a few of his performances.

John Petrucci
That's right. I'm a big fan of Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment, for both of whom Petrucci plays guitar. I'm a big fan of Petrucci in general, who is astoundingly fast and precise and whom, like Jordan Rudess and the rest of Dream Theater, is educated in music. John played on the G3 tour with Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai and others, but in my opinion, he outstrips all of those guys. What sets Petrucci apart, aside from his technical brilliance, is his compositional skills. They just don't get any better than Petrucci. Petrucci plays technically complex material that's very listenable.
